Clicking AVI Files on explorer causing 100% CPU Usage
NEW HijackThis automated log analyzer! Get your logs analyzed INSTANTLY!

In the latest build of XP Service pack 2 I noticed an old bug has resurfaced. When I right click on an AVI file that was not completed downloaded and doesn't have certain tags the CPU goes to 100% and stays that way until I reboot! It has something to do with how it determines the width, height and other information of the movie if all of the information it's looking for is not there it goes nuts.

To solve this problem all you have to do is the following:

1. Start --> Run --> type  regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler
3. Delete "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"

You no longer will be able to see additional information on the files when looking at the properties of the file but it saves your resources if you're having this problem.
